7 Days Samburu, Treetops, Nakuru, and Masai Mara Safari
6-Night Samburu, Treetops, Nakuru & Masai Mara Lodge Safari Holiday 2022
Itinerary at a Glance
Day 1: Nairobi-Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Depart from Nairobi in the morning for Masai Mara, passing through the dramatic Great Rift Valley and stopping at the viewpoint. Ascend the western rim of the valley, crossing the Loita plains (Maasai-land), where you can see red-clad Maasai warriors tending their multi-colored herds among plains game. Enjoy game viewing en route to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive in the most scenic park in Kenya, where a great concentration of game, including the “Big Five,” can be observed. Dinner and overnight at a tented camp.
Day 2: Maasai Mara National Reserve
Morning and afternoon game viewing inside the park. Search for wild game, including the black-manned lion for which Mara is famous, as well as cheetah, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, leopard, and grants gazelle, which are quite common. Even the rare rhino might emerge from the thicket for you, and hyenas are plentiful. Extend your drive to the hippo point, where schools of hippos submerge on the approach of vehicles only to surface seconds later to show their displeasure as the crocodiles sunbathe on the riverbanks with mouths agape. Between meals, there is an optional visit to the Maasai villages for insight into their culture if clients wish. Meals and overnight at a tented camp. Optional Balloon safaris.
Day 3: Maasai Mara-Lake Nakuru National Park
Early morning (before breakfast) game viewing drive at Maasai Mara in search of any wild game you might have missed previously. Return to the lodge for breakfast and depart for Lake Nakuru, arriving in time for lunch. Lake Nakuru is referred to as the pink lake for its thousands of pink flamingos and other birdlife—it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise. It surprisingly hosts a number of animals and is a rhino sanctuary, with the “Big Five” (excluding elephants) present. Enjoy an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge/Sarova Lion Hill Lodge.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Samburu National Reserve
Early morning game viewing drive to savor the beauty of the park and search for any wild game you might have missed previously. Look for warthogs and waterbucks as you leave the park. Breakfast at the lodge and depart for Samburu, crossing the Equator to the rugged semi-desert region in northern Kenya. Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive to search for the “stars of Samburu.” Dinner and overnight at a tented camp.
Day 5: Samburu
Early morning and afternoon game viewing drives at Samburu in search of the rarely found species of wild game, such as the liver-red reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, the long-necked gerenuk antelopes, beisa oryx, blue-flanked Somali ostrich, vulturine guinea fowl, and also brave lions on the grass, leopards in the trees, and plenty of other plains game. In between meals, there is an optional visit to the Samburu villages if clients wish. All meals and overnight at a tented camp.
Day 6: Treetops.
Morning game drive in Samburu, followed by breakfast and departure for Treetops in the Aberdares National Park. Arrive in time for lunch at the Outspan Country Club.
