Full Itinerary
The Umbwe route is the hardest but most magnificent and shortest way to reach Uhuru Peak. A Less-frequented route, which is very steep and suitable only for experienced trekkers. Additional days can be added to our program to discover or lighten up along the route or camp in the Karanga Valley.
Day 1: Arusha – Moshi
Arrive and check-in at your Arusha Hotel, relax, and have lunch. Depart for Moshi at 1400hrs arriving at 1530hrs. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Moshi or (Pick up from Kilimanjaro airport and transfer to hotel in Moshi)
Day 2: Umbwe Camp
After breakfast drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Umbwe for starting the climb. From this point, you’ll hike through the forest along a narrow ridge nestled between the Umbwe and Lonzo rivers, ultimately arriving at Bivouac No. 1, also known as Forest Caves, situated at 2850m. This is where you’ll set up camp and spend the night.
Day 3: Barranco Camp
The path continues along the ridge, gradually departing from the forest as it leads through open moorlands, eventually reaching Barranco Hut at an elevation of 3950 meters. This is where you’ll make camp and spend the night.
Day 4: Barafu Hut
On this day, your trek begins with a steep ascent out of Barranco Valley, taking you through Karanga Valley before finally arriving at Barafu Hut, situated at an altitude of 4600 meters. You’ll set up camp here and spend the night in preparation for the summit attempt.
Day 5: Ascend to Uhuru Peak
Your summit day begins with an early morning start, aiming to reach the crater rim at Stella Point and then continuing to Uhuru Peak at 5895 meters. Following your summit success, you will descend to Mweka Camp.
Day 6: Descent to Parks Gate
The day is dedicated to descending to the park gates, and you’ll spend the night at the hotel.
Day 7: Arusha Hotel
You’ll have the day to relax at your hotel in Arusha before your transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
